Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Planners groups.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
